Vintage Florals

There’s something about florals that has always called to me.

Even when I’m not consciously thinking about what to create next, I find myself reaching for petals and stems — little sketches of daisies in the margins of a notebook, a quick tulip here, a peony there, a Black-eyed Susan blooming across a page before I even notice it. I once read that what we doodle without thinking is what we value most. Maybe that’s true. Maybe that’s why flowers have always felt like home.

Florals, to me, have long mirrored the idea of family. Each petal — delicate, distinct, quietly beautiful — grows outward from a shared center, similar yet uniquely its own. A whole made up of many, connected by something deeper than what you can see. I think that’s why I’ve always been drawn to them. They remind me that beauty can be both simple and layered, familiar and surprising.

When I began painting this collection, I kept coming back to rich jewel tones, warm oranges, soft pinks — colors that felt like comfort. Like warmth. Like the quiet glow of a living room lamp in the early evening or the memory of a kitchen filled with voices and laughter. Each bouquet in this series is arranged with intention, reflecting the affection I’ve carried for florals throughout my life and the meaning I find in them still.

My hope is that these paintings bring that same sense of warmth and belonging into your home — a reminder of the small beauties that root us, the people who shape us, and the joy found in the simple act of creating something lovely.
